Following harassment and threats, Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered in a car bomb explosion on 16 October 2017. The outcry over the authorities’ handling of her murder investigation ultimately prompted the resignation of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. MEPs confirm that next year the EU will put the needs of young people at the forefront of its political action. According to the deal reached by the co-legislators, the 2022 European Year of Youth will focus on creating positive prospects for young people after the pandemic and including youth priorities in all relevant EU policy areas.

The draft text MEPs will vote on lists further actions to support the sector, like facilitating cross-border mobility with dedicated programmes for young creators and innovators, possibly revised requirements on visas, taxation, and social security, and the cross-border recognition of arts-based education degrees.
