Election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament: Best of

Presentations by the candidates for election to the office of the President&nbsp;of the European Parliament, during the EP plenary session (16-19 January) in Strasbourg. The 6 persons running to the Presidency of the European Parliament are Antonio Tajani (EPP), Gianni Pittella (S&amp;D), Helga Stevens (ECR), Jean Lamberts (GUE), Eleonora Forenza (Greens), Laurentiu Rebega (ENF).

Election of the President of the European Parliament: extracts from the presentations by the candidates for election to the office of the President

After the vote for the election of the President of the European Parliament during the EP plenary session (16-19 January) in Strasbourg, EP President Martin SCHULZ announces the results of the first ballot&nbsp; : 718 votes cast, 35 invalid votes. 683 valid votes, that means the absolute majority is 342 votes, that&rsquo;s necessary for a victory in the first round. Ms Forenza obtained 50 votes, Ms Lamberts 56 votes, Mr Pittella 183 votes, Mr Rebega 43 votes, Ms Stevens 77 votes, Mr Tajani 274 votes. None of the candidates obtained an absolute majority of the votes cast and that means we proceed to a second round of voting.

Election of the President of the European Parliament: extracts from the results of the first ballot

After the vote for the election of the President of the European Parliament, during the EP plenary session (16-19 January) in Strasbourg, Martin SCHULZ, EP President announces the results of the third ballot:&nbsp;719 votes cast, 29 invalid votes, 690 valid votes, Absolute majority: 346 votes. The results are: Forenza: 45 votes; Lambert: 35 votes; Pittella: 199 votes; Rebega: 44 votes; Stevens: 58 votes; Tajani: 291 votes. The third round being inconclusive, a fourth round will be held between the two candidates with the highest votes:&nbsp;Mr Tajani and&nbsp;Mr Pittella.
