The trialogue closed doors meeting on Mobility Package was taken place all night long on 12 December at the European Council in Brussels. A deal has been reached. SOUNDBITE (English), Henna VIRKKUNEN (EPP, FI), I think it&rsquo;s a good deal because this has been a very difficult process. There were very different opinions between the members states, also of the members in the Parliament, different stakeholders. So I think it&rsquo;s very balanced compromise we have prayed.

SOUNDBITE (English), Henna VIRKKUNEN (EPP, FI), For the parliament this was very important that we really have to have a minimum social rules for the working conditions and we have to also be able to control the rules. So it&rsquo;s very important now, that in the future, we will have this smart <em>tachographs</em>  to the vehicles and then we can really enforce an on /off control that the rules are respected everywhere in our single market. 

And then another important new element is that now the LCV will be included to the scope, because now it&rsquo;s not very fair to competition. Because there&rsquo;s more and more of these lights vehicles, lights commercial vehicles who are coming to the market, to the international transport, but that they are not under the scope of this driving and resting times. So it&rsquo;s not good for the road safety but also it&rsquo;s not also fair competition because they don&rsquo;t have the same rules. So in the future also those light commercial vehicles who are doing international operations, they are professional drivers, they are also under this scope.

SOUNDBITE (English), KONE&#268;N&#193; Kate&#345;ina (GUE/NGL, CZ), It's my sincere believe that mobility package will help drivers and European business since there will finally be a clarity on the rules. European drivers deserve the best possible conditions since they work very hard and I know we would all appreciate to know, they are well rested while driving a heavy-vehicles on European roads. Posting of drivers its therefore mainly about social justice and road safety. I'm glad we managed to achieve our important goals and I would like to thank everyone, who made it possible.
