Opening remarks by Roberta METSOLA, EP President on the outcome of the visit of Volodymyr ZELENSKYY

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, Last Thursday, the 9th of February was an important day for European unity. Dear colleagues, before attending the Special European Council meeting, the European Parliament had the honour of hosting President Zelensky, a true example of the bravery, courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people. President Zelensky spoke from our chamber, but his words really reverberated throughout Europe.

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, It was a strong message and a reminder that the battle in Ukraine is not just one for territory, but also one in defence of our shared values. I want to thank you all for attending this extraordinary plenary session. Ahead of the one year anniversary of Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine, we have shown that the European Parliament stands and continues to stand in full solidarity with Ukraine and its people, and we will continue to do just that.
