Belgium holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2024. Belgium has announced that it will be working to strengthen the European Union and make progress in several areas, such as climate change, economic growth and social cohesion; whilst acting as a neutral mediator to lead the legislative work and seek compromises among the EU Member States. During the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels (08-10 July 2020), MEPshave discussed on the EU’spublic health strategy to give a response amid the Covid-19 crisis, on 8th July. Statements by Michael ROTH, German Presidency, Stella KYRIAKIDES, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Peter LIESE (EPP, DE), Heléne FRITZON (S&D, SE), Véronique TRILLET-LENOIR (RE, FR), and Petra DE SUTTER (Greens/EFA, BE). On 10th July, they voted : 526 in favor, 105 against and 50 abstention. Adopted.
