Following the presidential election in the US, MEPs discuss the future of EU-US relations under the new administration.

The debate with Council and Commission representatives on 13 November 2024 on the implications of Donald Trump’s victory for transatlantic relations is expected to centre on a variety of issues, including future EU-US cooperation on Russia, China, the Middle East and climate change.

On security and military cooperation, the Republican Party demands a reduction in US military assistance to Ukraine and the future US president has criticised Europe for not spending enough on defence. Trade between the US and EU is also expected to be debated as the president-elect wants to impose new tariffs on products coming from Europe.
