SOUNDBITE (English), Petros KOKKALIS (The Left, EL), Up until this COP, China and the European Union have been the champions of fighting climate change and trying to keep global warming to 1.5C degrees. China up to date de-commissioned more coal than the total Capacity of the United Kingdom. So there pledges are very welcome and they spoke to us at length about it about their 1+ action plan that looks very much like our Green Deal. We need to know more. They're very much eager to close the Paris Agreement rulebook, as much as we are, and as they are also developing what would be the biggest carbon market on the planet. They're very eager to finalise Article 6.

SOUNDBITE (English), Petros KOKKALIS (The Left, EL), We're very happy to hear the General secretary of the IMO (International Maritime organisation) expressing his gratitude that the pressure put forward by the European Parliament has had a positive effect and that we should be expecting a market based mechanism coming after two weeks from the meeting. We ofcourse need a faster movement. They would prefer a global levy based on a market based mechanism, and we would be very happy to substitute this for the ETS (emissions trading scheme) once they have it credibly and ambitious enough.
