Human rights in Iran: statement by Jerzy BUZEK, EP President, on the case of Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani

SOUNDBITE (Polish), Jerzy Karol BUZEK, EP President, I would like to draw your attention to the case of Mme Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani who was sentenced to death in Iran. According to the information that we have the Supreme Court is reviewing her case. It seems that Mme Ashtiani has been condemned to 99 lashes because her case was discussed in the international press. We appeal to the Irani authorities to review this case in a fair way, and we reiterate the fact that the European Parliament is against the death penalty.
