Міжнародний жіночий день відзначається щорічно 8 березня, щоб вшанувати досягнення жінок і привернути увагу до прав жінок. Це нагода підвищити рівень обізнаності про такі питання, як гендерна рівність, репродуктивні права, боротьба з насильством та жорстоким поводженням з жінками. Рівність між жінками і чоловіками завжди була однією з основних цінностей і цілей Європейського Союзу, але поставлена мета все ще не досягнута повністю.

Як ЄС бореться за права жінок

La Journée internationale des droits des femmes a lieu le 8 mars. Cette journée vise à mettre en avant les réalisations des femmes et à promouvoir leurs droits. Elle a aussi pour objectif de sensibiliser à l’égalité de genre, à la lutte contre les violences et les abus à l’égard des femmes et aux droits reproductifs. L’égalité de genre a toujours été l’une des valeurs fondamentales et l’un des objectifs de l’Union européenne, mais beaucoup reste encore à faire.

Les mutilations génitales féminines comprennent tout acte visant à altérer ou à léser intentionnellement les organes génitaux féminins pour des raisons non médicales. Elles sont pratiquées pour des motifs culturels, religieux et parfois sociaux, mais ne présentent aucun intérêt sanitaire et peuvent même avoir de graves conséquences immédiates et à long terme sur la santé et le bien-être. Que fait-on pour mettre un terme à ces pratiques?

Gender-balanced representation among the decision-makers of the European Union is an important step towards full realisation of the principle of equality between women and men enshrined in the EU Treaties. The Union has made steady and significant progress, starting from a very low presence of women among EU Commissioners and Members of the European Parliament at the time when those institutions were created. The European Parliament is today one of the world's most gender-balanced representative assemblies, but there are still significant divergences between EU countries.
