SOUNDBITE (French), Alain LAMASSOURE (EPP, FR), Chair of the Budget Committee, The Parliament wishes to preserve the future and wants to agree on the figures for the 2011 Budget; but at the same time we want a political agreement with the Council for working together in the future. That means to preserve the financing of the future European policies which the EU needs; policies that we all have agreed on and policies that have not yet a guarantee of financing in the future.

SOUNDBITE (French), Alain LAMASSOURE (EPP, FR), Chair of the Budget Committee, Either we get a political agreement with the Budget Ministers tonight and everybody is happy, either we will make appeal to the Council. For the second scenario, the European Parliament will seize the opportunity of next week's Plenary for making an official statement about the future financing of the EU, in order to prepare deliberations for next European Council. After the European Council, I hope, we will be able to strike a global agreement on 2011 and the way of working after 2011.
