SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, <p>We need proper rule that will allow to find the correct balance between user freedom and the respect of their private lives. It is unacceptable that access to online apps means giving up privacy. The Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal is a call to politics, to politicians, that they have to vigilant to avoid these abuses. But also provides an opportunity to recall that EU is in the vanguard of privacy legislation.</p>

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, As the Parliament and Commissioner proposed, platforms have to create value and they have to be taxed where they make their profits.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, According to the World Economic Forum, 65% of children in primary school will eventually do jobs that don't yet exist. This means we need to change the European education system as a whole. We can't allow there to be young unemployed people and at the same time companies moving away because of a lack of skills.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, I would just like to recall the Cambridge Analytica scandal. We cannot let our guard down. We have to demand all clarifications necessary on how our data has been used, which have been used to manipulate election results starting with the Brexit referendum. That is why I have invited Mark Zuckerberg to appear in front of this parliament to explain to 500 million European citizens, what has happened and what he is planning to do.

This is why in the past 3 years we  have tried to chart a very ambitious path towards a Single Digital Market. We set out very clear objectives. First we wanted to offer European consumers the a strong level of online protection regardless of where they reside or where they are established. We wanted online businesses to have opportunities to be active across the EU.</p>

SOUNDBITE (French), Mariya GABRIEL, Member of the EC in charge of the Digital agenda, We need a Multi-annual Financial Framework(MFF) that will support future development in the digital sector. I count European citizens and on the Member States to ensure that we have a digital Euro programme in the next MFF, where we will include things like cyber security, super computers, where we as individual Member States cannot be leaders.
