SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "The fact that I was invited shows how dramatic the situation is".

SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "And therefore I expect a solution today and I hope it to be a constructive one, and the one that - as it is the will of the majority in the European Parliament - keeps Greece in the Eurozone".

SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "I would like to end by saying, before the question time, that I can't remeber any other situation as this ever in the European politics. It's not just any decission, it is, in my opinion, about the ability of the European Union to solve its own problems as an entity to be taken seriously".

SOUNDBITE (French), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "The idea of the 'Treuhand' is not a German idea, it may be similar, but the original idea comes from Jean-Claude Juncker. Juncker initiated the idea that the credits of the privatizations could be used for Greek debt servicing."

SOUNDBITE (French), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "I'm not the spokesperson of the German government, I can't tell you where that comes from. It's a paper that includes an element of temporary Grexit, but with a precondition, that Greece accepts it. But I don't think they would, so we shouldn't waste our time discussing it".

SOUNDBITE (French), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "There are some countries that are very tough and there are others that are very co-operative, and very understanding of the Greek situation. I think that the large majority of the Eurogroup wants to keep Greece".

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "I think it is institutionally an enormous progress, after the debate of last week of Alexis Tsipras and Tusk, with Bettel and Juncker, and the whole assembly, made no sense not to invite the President of the European Parliament today to the Eurogroup and I think, in this logic, it was quite clear that I was invited and I'm very greatful to Donald Tusk, who took this step and I think this is, in the interinstitutional relationship, between the Euroepan Council and the European Parliament, and enormous step forward".

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, President of the European Parliament, "I think we should find a solution today, there's a room for compromise, I think a German-French compromise is a key but it is not the only necessity, we need also all 19 members of the eurozon, toghether with Greece, on board. There is a lot of resistence in Finland, there's a lot of questions in Slovakia, so this is not easy, but I think it's possible to find a compromise today".
