And we did this thanks to what we call the new Colombian deal, our commitment to Colombia focusing public and private investment across the whole of the country.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Iv&#225;n DUQUE M&#193;RQUEZ, President of Colombia, I am pleased to see how Colombia has been transformed to a better state thanks to the support of the European Union. I would like you to consider it as a success, where we have progressed on the basis of democratic transitions in our country, and that you continue to extend your cooperation with Latin America. It is imperative.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Iv&#225;n DUQUE M&#193;RQUEZ, President of Colombia, Europe needs Latin America and Latin America needs Europe. Climate change needs Latin America, the home of the Amazon and the home of so much biodiversity, so much sea life. For these reasons, it's essential that we establish dialog at the highest level between heads of state of Europe and Latin America.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Iv&#225;n DUQUE M&#193;RQUEZ, President of Colombia, Every nation should be free to join an organization, and the world should be united in rejecting any violent intimidation or any exercising violence.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Iv&#225;n DUQUE M&#193;RQUEZ, President of Colombia, Almost 40 years ago, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Nobel Prize winner, said to the world that Latin America stood alone. And today Latin America has to a large extent overcome that situation of being alone. But we look to Europe today and invite Europe to continue working on this multilateral dialog with its roots in democracy.
