In summer 2024, while presenting her political programme to Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen said that active EU engagement with the Middle East would be one of her priorities if re-elected as Commission President. In President von der Leyen’s mission letter to Kaja Kallas, published in autumn 2024, she tasked the new EU foreign policy chief with presenting a comprehensive EU Middle East strategy, “with a view to the day after the war in Gaza”. Parliament elects its Quaestors following the election of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta METSOLA, which comprise Parliament’s Bureau. Quaestors deal with administrative matters directly affecting MEPs and participate in an advisory capacity which lays down rules for Parliament’s smooth functioning. Elected Quaestors are: Marc ANGEL (S&D, LU), Fabienne KELLER (Renew, FR), Andrey KOVATCHEV (EPP, BG), Miriam LEXMANN (EPP, SK), and Kosma ZŁOTOWSKI (ECR, PL).
