The brave Ukrainian people are awarded the European Parliament’s 2022 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in a ceremony, in Strasbourg. Some representatives of the Ukrainian people gathered physically in Strasbourg. Roberta METSOLA, EP President, with Annelies VERLINDEN, Belgian Minister of Interior and Christos DOULKERIDIS, Mayor of Ixelles, donate the first generator to the Ukrainian people. As a result of Russia's war against Ukraine and its continuing attacks on critical civilian infrastructure, which violate international and humanitarian law, more than half of Ukraine´s electricity network has been damaged or destroyed, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity.
