They enable individuals and companies to earn recognition and/or financial benefit from what they invent or create. By striking the right balance between innovators and public interest, intellectual property aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish. But despite impressive patent activity, European businesses still encounter various challenges to register or protect patents.
