During the plenary session of the European Parliament (10-13/09/2018) in Strasbourg, MEPs vote on Parliament’s position on copyright rules for the digital sphere, following the debate and after the House decided in July to reopen the proposal made by the Legal Affairs Committee. Parliament’s position for talks with member states to hammer out a final deal was approved by 438 votes to 226, with 39 abstentions. The Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) vote legislative proposals to update current EU rules on copyright in the European Parliament in Brussels. MEPs aim to ensure that artists’ copyrighted works are well protected when they are accessed online and that press publishers are remunerated when users access their texts online. Statements by Axel VOSS (EPP, DE), Rapporteur. The results are: 14 in favour, 9 against and 2 abstentions).
