During the EP plenary session (13-16 November 2017) in Strasbourg, MEPs vote on the decision to enter into negotiations of the Dublin asylum reform. During the EP plenary session (23-26 October) in Strasbourg, MEPs vote on the introduction of an electronic entry/exit system to replace manual passport checks at the Schengen area’s external borders. The new system will register various data on incoming persons from countries outside the EU, admitted for a short stay of 90 days, and share the information with all external border control points to stop illegal entry and track over-stays. During the meeting of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) in the EP in Brussels, MEPs vote a major revamp of the Dublin regulation, which determines which member state is responsible for processing an asylum request. The aim is to tackle the weaknesses of the current asylum rules and to share responsibility more equally between member states.
