During the plenary session (11-14 June 2018) of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, MEPs debated on the ongoing judicial reform in Poland with Frans TIMMERMANS. The Polish Government is carrying out a comprehensive overhaul of the judiciary, which, according to the European Commission, threatens its independence and the principle of separation of powers. During the EP plenary session (28/02-01/03 2018) in Brussels, MEPs vote on the European Commission’s call for EU governments to determine whether Poland is at a clear risk of a serious breach of EU values. MEPs express their concerns regarding the rule of law in Poland, the separation of powers, the independence of the judiciary and fundamental rights. The results are: 422 in favour 147 against and 48 abstentions.
