Every year since 2007, the European Parliament rolls out the red carpet to reward authentic European cinema through the Lux Prize.

The Lux Prize not only honours some of the best European films, but also helps to promote them. It is a tool to support European cinema, to spark debate on current political and social issues and also a way to reflect on European identity and values.

There is a long standing relationship between the European Parliament and the Presidents of the French Rebpublic. Six of the eight presidents of the Fifth Republic -&nbsp;excluding&nbsp;de Gaulle and Pompidou&nbsp;-&nbsp;have visited the European Parliament in Strasbourg, thus displaying solidarity with the parliament and demonstrating their commitment to the European project.
