Over the years the EU and European Parliament have consistently opposed Russian aggression against Ukraine. In a resolution adopted in December 2021, MEPs called on Russia to withdraw its troops threatening Ukraine and said any aggression by Moscow must come at a high economic and political price. The EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), launched in November 2022 for a period of two years, is designed to strengthen the military capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces so that they can defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders, and protect the civilian population. The mission has a non-executive mandate to provide individual, collective and specialised training for the Ukrainian armed forces in the territory of EU member states.
