In a debate with Presidents Charles MICHEL and Ursula von der LEYEN, MEPs assess the outcomes of the European Council meeting of 20 and 21 October. MEPs call on the Council and Commission fore more urgent measures, as families and companies are facing the energy and economic crisis and more investments on renewable energies. Ursula von der LEYEN warns that even if EU will have enough gas for winter, the EU risks falling short of some 30 billion cubic metres of gaz during the next storage filling season in 2023.

On 22 June 2022, the Chancellery of the European Citizen’s Prize decided on the winning projects of the European Citizen’s Prize. The Prize recognises initiatives that contribute to European cooperation and the promotion of common values. This year, 300 applications were submitted, out of which 30 winners were selected. Awarded every year by the European Parliament, the Prize goes to projects organised by people or organisations that encourage: mutual understanding and closer integration between people in the EU, cross-border cooperation that builds a stronger European spirit, EU values and fundamental rights. Active since April 2022, the European Parliament’s Committee of Inquiry to investigate the use of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware (PEGA) has commissioned studies, held hearings with experts, and organised three fact-finding visits (to Israel, Poland and Greece), with more to follow.
