During the EP Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), in Brussels, MEPs vote on the strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement. The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) vote on new binding reduction targets for CO2 emissions produced by heavy-duty vehicles, in the European Parliament in Brussels. New EU rules to reduce marine litter are voted on by the Environment and Public Health Committee (ENVI) in the European Parliament in Brussels. They target the main sources of macro-plastics found in Europe’s seas and beaches, which account for 70% of marine litter, and would ban products such as single-use cutlery, plates, plastic cotton buds and straws by 2021. During the meeting of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) in the EP in Brussels, MEPs call for measures to address vaccine “hesitancy” in the EU, where growing numbers of people are choosing to delay or refuse vaccines. Recent data from EU member states show a significant drop in the use of vaccines. The results are: 55 in favour, 1 against and 3 abstentions. In the EP in Brussels, Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) vote on a draft resolution calling on the Council and European Commission to achieve a global ban on cosmetics testing on animals. Such a ban is already in force in the EU, but around 80 % of the world’s countries still allow animal testing and the marketing of cosmetics tested on animals. During the meeting of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) in the EP in Brussels, MEPs voted and rejected the objection to a proposal by the European Commission's setting new limits for the use of the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) in varnishes and coatings that come into contact with food. The objection by some MEPs was intended to push the Commission to work towards a total ban of this molecule in materials coming into contact with food. In 2016, European Parliament asked for a ban on BPA in all materials which come into contact with food.
