The provisional agreement reached on Tuesday night on the draft legislation aims to ensure gender parity on boards of publicly listed companies in the EU. At least 40% of non-executive directors should be women. The so-called “Women on Boards” Directive aims to introduce transparent recruitment procedures in companies, so that at least 40% of non-executive director posts or 33% of all director posts are occupied by the under-represented sex. The FEMM Committee organises a Public Hearing entitled “Enhancing gender equality through common European action on care". The hearing examines gender aspects of provision of care, especially with regard to uneven distribution of care responsibilities in formal and informal care, but also the overrepresentation of women in the care sector, the challenges related to this at EU level including the consequences on the gender pay and gender pension gaps and on the work-life balance and the possible added value of common European action on care. Different speakers present their experiences, analysis and suggestions.
