MEPs debate and vote on their negotiating position for talks with EU member states on new rules for the EU’s alternative fuels infrastructure. They want electric charging pools for cars to be available at least every 60 km along main EU roads by 2026 and hydrogen refuelling stations every 100 km by 2028. The Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE) has endorsed a trilogue agreement on new rules to better protect the EU’s essential infrastructure. The new rules would establish harmonised minimum rules to ensure that different member states classify the same providers as essential, and risk assessments for essential infrastructure to boost its resilience in the face of disruptions and hazards. The scope would be expanded to eleven sectors in total, including energy, transport, banking, financial market infrastructures, health, drinking water, waste water, food, digital infrastructure and space. Parliament debates the new law establishing a single charging solution for mobile phones, tablets and other portable electronics in the EU. From autumn 2024, a whole range of small and medium-sized portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras and headphones, will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port. By extending the mandate of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the EU aims to be better prepared and able to coordinate its response to possible future health crises. This means increased cooperation between EU, national and international bodies, collection of timely and comparable EU-wide data, as well as monitoring national health systems more closely to assess their capacity to tackle outbreaks.
