Roberta METSOLA, EP President and Mikuláš BEK, Minister for European Affairs, on behalf of the Czech Presidency of the Council sign a COD LEX on the "Digital Markets Act" in presence of Andreas SCHWABB (EPP, DE), rapporteur, in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The purpose of the Regulation is to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market by promoting effective competition in digital markets and in particular a fair and contestable online platform environment. The Regulation is the first of its kind globally. Co-legislators agreed that this Regulation should apply to core platform services which are most prone to unfair practices. It lays down quantitative thresholds for the designation of gatekeepers (Big digital companies, operating or being accessible in Europe).

With energy prices skyrocketing and households being put under increasing financial pressure, MEPs discuss the merits and the most effective way of imposing a windfall tax on energy companies’ profits. In a resolution adopted in May, MEPs called for such a tax in principle.
