Born on 11 April 1920 in Potenza (Italy). 
• In 1946, aged 26, he was elected a Member of the Constituent Assembly that was responsible for drafting Italy's new post-war constitution. He was appointed secretary to the Agriculture Committee. 
• In 1948 he was elected a Member of the Italian Parliament, where he sat until 2003, when the President of Italy appointed him a senator for life. 
• Between 1950 and 1952 he was a minister in several Italian centre and centre-left governments. 
• From August 1970 to February 1972, he was President of the Italian Government's Council of Ministers. 
• In 1985 he became President of the European Union of Christian Democrats. 
• On 12 July 1990 he was appointed President of the Atlantic Committee. 
• Finally, from March 1993 to June 1995, he was President of Christian Democrat International.

◦ In 1976 Mr Colombo became a Member of the European Parliament, where he sat until 1992 in the Christian-Democratic Group which later became the Group of the European People's Party.

Angola's partnership with the EU is based on the ACP-EU Cotonou Partnership Agreement which aims to reduce poverty by developing the Angolan economy and gradually integrating it into the global economy.

The Joint Way Forward promotes more active political cooperation, especially Angola's active involvement in the different regional and multilateral fora, and prioritises key areas of common interest from the 2007 Joint Africa-EU Strategy (security, governance, human rights, economic growth, energy, transport, environment, science and technology, training and education).

Kofi ANNAN was a former UN Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize winner. In 2003, the United Nations staff and Secretary General Kofi Annan were honoured with the Sakharov Prize.

Sentenced to life in prison, he spent 27 years in jail before becoming the country's first black President. There have been five multiannual financial frameworks (MFFs) to date. The Treaty of Lisbon transformed the MFF from an interinstitutional agreement into a legally binding act.

Established for a period of at least five years, an MFF must ensure that the Union’s expenditure develops in an orderly manner and within the limits of its own resources, and sets out provisions with which the annual budget of the Union must comply, thus laying down the cornerstone of financial discipline.

The European Semester is the EU's annual cycle of economic policy guidance and surveillance.

The European Semester Conference, organised by the European Parliament, provided an opportunity to exchange information on best practices in implementing the Semester cycles, and to strengthen cooperation in order to scrutinise the actions of the executive at national and European levels within the framework of the European Semester cycle.

The last EuroLat meeting&nbsp;of the Standing Parliamentary Committees took place at the European Parliament's premises in Brussels (Belgium) from 30 November - 2 December 2022.

The 150 EuroLat members met in times of a rapidly changing geopolitical context and at a crucial time for the relaunch of EU-Latin America relations, right after the EU- CELAC ministerial meeting in Argentina and the adoption of the EU "Road Map 2023".

The Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat) is a multilateral parliamentary assembly - a forum for several different parliaments to come together - composed of 150 members. EuroLat is the parliamentary institution of 'the European Union - Latin American and Caribbean Bi-regional Strategic Partnership. The Assembly is composed by 150 Members; Half of the members - 75 - are members of the European Parliament and the other half - 75 - comes from the Latin American regional parliaments.

The Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly - EuroLat was created in 2006. Its Constituent Session took place on 8 and 9 October in Brussels.

The European Parliament held a second plenary session in October in Strasbourg.

The highlights of the October II plenary session included a debate on the conclusions of the last European Council meeting and the presentation of a new agenda for EU leaders, as well as the presentation of the 2018 Commission work programme. Members paid tribute to Daphne Caruana Galizia, the Maltese journalist killed in a car bomb explosion on 16 October.

Every year the European Parliament rolls out the red carpet to reward authentic European cinema. The Lux Prize not only honours some of the best European films, but also helps to promote them. It is a tool to support European cinema, to spark debate on current political and social issues and also a way to reflect on European identity and values. 

The ten films nominated for the Lux Prize are every year announced at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July. A few weeks later the three short-listed films are revealed in Rome. At the end of the summer they are screened during the Venice Days at the Venice Biennale. In order for as many Europeans as possible to discover the three Lux Prize finalists, the films are subtitled into the 24 official EU languages and shown at cinemas all over Europe from October to December. These screenings are known as the Lux Film Days and during this time MEPs also watch the films and vote for which film they would like to win. The Lux Prize is awarded during the November plenary session in Strasbourg in the presence of the directors of the short-listed films.

During the plenary session of November in Strasbourg session, MEPs will debate amongst others, on the latest tax dodging scandal and vote on new anti-dumping proposals. The 2017 winner of Parliament's Lux Prize will be announced on Tuesday.

The EU Heads of state or government of the Member States meet in Brussels on 14 and 15 December 2017 and&nbsp; look at a number of the most pressing issues, including defence, migration, foreign affairs, social issues, education and culture.

 
EU Leaders are expected to welcome the launch of the permanent structured cooperation (PESCO). On 13 November, 23 Member States notified their intention to join PESCO to enhance defence cooperation.They will also review progress in other fields, notably on EU-NATO cooperation. The European Council will adopt conclusions on social issues as well as on education and culture. Under the Leaders' Agenda, leaders will hold a debate on the way forward on migration policy, including both the internal and external dimensions. Leaders will reassess the state of progress in the Brexit negotiations to determine whether sufficient progress has been achieved on three specific issues: citizens' rights, Ireland and financial obligations

In the annual State of the European Union debate, MEPs quizzed President von der Leyen on the Commission’s work in the past and its plans until the June 2024 elections.



Opening the debate, EP President, Roberta Metsola&nbsp;said: “The European Union today is stronger, and more united than ever before. The world is changing and Europe must adapt and change with it too. We must keep striving to make our Europe a place of equality of opportunity, of access, of prosperity - where everyone can reach their potential. We must keep reforming. We should always keep people’s concerns at the centre of all our actions.“



Commission President von der Leyen said that the EU has undergone a substantial transformation since she first presented her programme in 2019, adding: ”We have delivered over 90% of the political guidelines I presented” back then. 



On the Green Deal, the decarbonisation of Europe’s industry while maintaining its competitiveness, she announced an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles. ”We must defend ourselves against unfair practices” she said. 



President von der Leyen stressed the importance of a fair transition for farmers, families and industry and that “Europe will do ’whatever it takes’ to keep its competitive edge.” She announced a competitiveness check by an independent board for every new legislation.



With regard to Artificial Intelligence, Ms von der Leyen said that AI will improve healthcare, boost productivity and help to address climate change. The Commission’s “number one priority is to ensure AI develops in a human-centric, transparent and responsible way” she said, also calling for an international panel of experts similar to the IPCC on climate change to steer its development. 



On Ukraine, she announced that the Commission will propose the extension of the EU’s temporary protection to Ukrainians and an additional 50 billion euros over four years for investment and reforms. “Our support to Ukraine will endure.” 



The Commission President also referred to the rule of law, enlargement, migration, EU-Africa relations, the Global Gateway initiative, climate change, food security, and an upcoming Social Partner Summit.
